Hollow Bones

P9270009.JPG

I reek of ash and rust
It falls and settles-
Your hands leave iron gifts
Make my papier-mâché your pincushion

We lie tuned to the same frequency
Dancing on telephone lines
Fixed broken fuse boxes electrocuting to life
Thunder only reminds me of static words

We said we had chemistry
Loneliness is a trap we fall into even at atomic levels
“O is incomplete without two.”
We were good at breathing that way.

It’s almost electric, the way we moved
We shared our electrons
We forgot that we needed room to breathe
We forgot to leave room to be singular.

Loneliness is a trap we fall into even at atomic levels.
We left our selves behind and became alone within ourselves.
“O is incomplete without two.”
But humans are too complex to exist that way.

And now we are floating
You left me an isotope
Breathing

But not living

Bound

But not in love

We grew away and now we smoke
Telephone lines lie dead and burning

(I still love you but what’s the point.)

You waved good-bye from a static television screen.
