No More Love Poems

When you fall in love with a witch

Rose petals and quartz points,
Clasped hands and incantations,
Whispering spirits in a tiny bedroom
Wide enough for the entire world
And the universe with it.

I need nothing else.

Hands, cheeks and fingertips,
Soft breaths and wild dreams,
Sweet nothings wandering in limbo
Uncertain of where they belong
Settling in salt water bowls.

I want to be clean again.

Bleeding hearts and champagne
Burning sage and you.

You.

I don’t want to go.

I won’t write you more love poems
Or cast spells to erase the muscle memory
When my feet find their way to your doorstep

I won’t sing you more bursting cocoons
Or modulate the key of every good-bye your fingertips whisper
When my lungs cry for your carbon dioxide

I won’t miss you
I won’t kiss you
I won’t pick an edelweiss for you

Or let you see what I hide behind my back
With both hands clasped too tightly
As I grit my frozen teeth
While you thaw me out.

I want to be good for you.

Rose petals and quartz points,
Clasped hands and incantations,
Whispering spirits in a tiny bedroom
Wide enough for the entire world
And the universe with it.

I need nothing else.

I need nothing else.
